My mom once told me, “long-distance relationship is an oxymoron”. Clearly, I didn’t heed her warning. But even after more than a year of seven hour drives back and forth, communicating solely over text message at times, and tearful phone conversations in the middle night, I can’t say that I regret my decision. The truth is, relationships are hard. It doesn’t matter if you live in the same house or thousands of miles away. When you make a commitment to someone you love, you are signing on for the good and the bad. But it’s like they say, the bad makes the good even better. Because if that person can stare you in the eyes and tell you they love you when you’re not so sure you even like yourself, then you know they’ll still be standing there when you’re on top of the world. And in that moment, having that person by your side, to rejoice in your success as if it was their own, is all that will really matter. Just don’t forget to do the same for them.
“And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.”
You can also make them cake. ❤
