Easy no-bake dog treats

If you know me, you know I’m absolutely obsessed with my dog, Honey.  You know those people who dress their shih tzu in a sweater and push it around in a stroller?  I’m not that bad, but pretty close.

I got my little english cream golden retriever, Honey, in December of 2012 when she was just 9 weeks old.  The first night, she pooped on the bed.  That was just the first of MANY similar incidents to come.  Having a puppy is a lot of hard work.  The trips to the vet.  Belongings ripped to shreds.  The constant barking and crying.  It really helped me relate to those girls on Teen Mom… maybe not so much.  The first few weeks were hard, but totally worth it.

Having a dog just adds a little extra happiness into your life.  Especially if you’re feeling lonely.  Dogs are friends that will hang out with you all the time, but you don’t have to worry about making small talk or showering or all that other stuff you should probably do in normal social settings. Your dog doesn’t care how weird you are and your dog doesn’t judge you for eating a whole plate of cookies in one night.  She just wants you to share.  (But don’t if they’re chocolate chip!)

I always had dogs growing up, so it just seemed right to have one now that I’m an adult living out on my own.  I will admit that the fact that my boyfriend has the most lovable/bad ass Australian Shepherd may have slightly encouraged me.  But, don’t tell him I said that.

Anyone who has a pup knows what I’m talking about.  They’re just little balls of unconditional love. 🙂

For Honey’s Birthday (Oct. 15) I was unfortunately unable to take her to the beach.  But I did get her some good puppy treats.  I got froyo from Yogizmo.  They make sundae’s for dogs with plain and peanut butter frozen yogurt and dog treats on top.  I also made her some easy peanut butter treats that she loved!  (The recipe is below) And of course she got a couple new toys and a bone.  Happy pup!  Although, I get the feeling she must of been almost as stuffed as I was on my birthday.

I can’t believe it’s almost been a year since I got her!  Here’s to many more hikes, runs on the beach, long car rides, and morning snuggles to come!  I love my Hun Bun. ❤

RECIPE (Dog Treat Kitchen):

Makes 10-12 treats (double recipe if you want more!)

– 1/2 cup peanut butter*

– 1/4 cup milk*

– 1 1/2 cups rolled oats

*It’s best to use peanut butter without too much added sugar or salt and low fat/non fat milk so they don’t upset your pup’s tummy.

Stir milk into peanut butter.  Stir in oats. Form dough into small to medium sized balls. Flatten with the palm of your hand.  Refrigerate for a couple hours. Give ’em to your fluffy friend. Happy dog! 🙂
